Description

Qualified in Medicine, University of Khartoum 1981; Member, Royal College of Physicians (UK) 1990; MD, University of Liverpool 1997; Fellow, Royal College of Physicians (London) 2000; Fellow, Royal College of Physicians (Glasgow) 2001; elected Fellow, American Society of Nephrology 2010. Since Summer 1997: Consultant physician and nephrologist, Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust; Since 2008 clinical senior lecturer, Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London. Previously, lecturer and honorary senior registrar to the Professor of Medicine, University of Liverpool, 1994-1997; Clinical lead of nephrology 2003-2010. Since 2000, regular contributor to education in Sudan; I have organised & participated in 6 conferences on Sudan health and medical education (2 at the Royal College of Physicians of London and 4 in Sudan); External examiner representing the Royal College of Physicians of London for professional examinations in Medicine. My principal research interest is centred on the muscles of patients with Chronic Kidney Disease which led to interest in sarcopenia and I coined the term uraemic sarcopenia; (Uraemic sarcopenia: aetiology and consequences. Nephrol Dial Transplant 2014; 29 (9): 1655-1665); 53 publications (19 original articles, 7 editorials, 7 occasional publications, 4 book chapters, 16 abstracts); 62 presentations at local, national and international conferences. Since 2010, member of international editorial board of Sudan Medical Journal; the Arab Journal of Nephrology and Transplantation; Manuscript reviewer for the American Journal of kidney diseases, the Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging, the Journal of Renal Nutrition, the Saudi Journal of Nephrology and Transplant; the Arab Journal of Nephrology and Transplantation and Grant reviewer for Kidney Research UK.
