Description
I have been working at the Kuwait Cultural Office in London since 2001. Currently, I work as Director of Academic Affairs & External Relations, which entails being Head of Postgraduate, Head of Offers Approval, and Head of Certification Departments, but before this, I worked as Head of Postgraduate Department until December 2013. My job involves drawing up a scholarship plan for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Higher Education and other Government Institutions, as well as consultancy work on all aspects of higher education for the State of Kuwait including placement of students in Medical and Dental Schools across the UK. I play a key role in drawing up special agreements between the Cultural Office and UK universities especially in Medicine and Dentistry. Before that I worked as a Senior Academic Advisor for the Saudi Arabian Cultural Bureau for 7 years. Job duties involved placement of and supervising Saudi students in different UK universities. Validating English language programmes for Saudi students by visiting different English language centres in UK. Duties also included providing consultancy work for the Saudi Ministry of Higher Education, and other Saudi Government agencies. Having spent more than 20 years of my career in the international higher education field, I have gained several skills and capabilities and have honed a unique set of core competencies in planning, communication, negotiation, organisation as well as interpersonal skills. I have first hand expertise in higher education aspects in relation to the Middle East and how best to enhance higher education opportunities, for students in institutions in the United Kingdom and Europe. Aided by strong leadership, cultural awareness and interpersonal skills, I am able to form and cultivate relations that help in creating opportunities for students and recruits. My study at the world leading school of Economics and Political Science (I obtained my MSc Political Sociology from the London School of Economics & Political Science - LSE), equipped me with first rate research and academic credentials. As a researcher, I worked for the British Refugee Council in London and prepared articles on various lively issues. I have experience of teaching at university level when I worked as an Assistant Lecturer, conducting seminars, tutorials, and workshops for students in Economics and Political Science. I have full appreciation of IT; I am computer literate, and able to utilise a wide range of IT applications. I have the ability to tackle and solve problems from first principles.
