Description

Shadia Omar is a postdoctoral scientist in Equine Influenza research team at The Animal Health Trust in the United Kingdom, where she is working to investigate Influenza virus antigenic drift. She has recently been awarded a grant to develop an improved equine influenza vaccine. Shadia earned her bachelor degree in Veterinary Medicine in Sudan before moving to the UK and studied a Master degree in Medical Microbiology at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. After working as a research scientist with extensive training in the high security maximum containment laboratory biosafety Level 4, she has been awarded studentship to study for PhD (Investigation of virus/cell receptor interaction in cough) at Queen’s University Belfast, School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences. Shadia worked as a medical virology and microbiology lecturer since 20013 before joining the influenza team at the Animal Health trust in 2015. Shadia’s areas of specialty and research interests include reverse genetics, site-directed-mutagenesis and equine influenza vaccine. Shadia has expertise in setting teaching and research virology labs and biosafety labs.
